I did a short online course on ancient and rare Japanese books a couple of years ago and it had an excellent exercise where people shared what was the oldest book in their home.
You can see the posts by clicking here (it can take a few moments to load the page).
The oldest book I had at the time was To Kill a Mocking Bird (printed in 1989). Which is relatively recent compared to some of the other excellent books that were shared on the board. (Although the content and quality of the book as I assume many or all of you are aware is of a mighty high standard.)
This was a deeply interesting task and it’s wonderful to see so many old books being shared. If I was at my parents house, I am sure I would have been able to share something of much greater in age and my Dad has some books going back at least to the 1850’s.
Books do have a certain space in our hearts and the ones we love the most are truly treasured.
This task gave me some food for thought and I am now always on the look out for some older books that I can treasure 🙂 It would also be great to hear from anyone reading this post on what is the oldest book you have in your home?
