A great video that summaries many of the great huanted house movies ever made, well worth a watch and covers movies going back to the 1940s so an extensive list from a real fan of Haunted House films.

The Haunting (released in 1963) often comes up as one of the most highly regarded scary movies of all time. If you’ve not seen this, and like this type of genre, it is well worth the watch. There was a version also made in 1999 staring Liam Neeson, Catherine-Zeta Jones and Owen Wilson. Although this version wasn’t as well received. Interestingly the 1999 movie was filmed on big sets and much like comedy I don’t think ghost movies work with big sets. Another interesting point here is that Neflix made a series called The Haunting of Hill House, that is also highly regarded and very scary. All of these are based on the book by The Haunting of Hill House, by Shirley Jackson.

The is video is covers some comedy ghost movies as well, such as Blithe Spirit, directed by David Lean, so if you’re not so into scary ghost stories, then you may like this one. Also a great classic movie made in 1961 called the The Innocents
